Jeden Sonntag spielen die Kinder von Trainer Kai Fußball. Aber heute gibt es ein Problem: Max ist krank. Max ist der Torwart.
„Wer spielt heute im Tor?“, fragt Kai. Niemand antwortet. Jonas will nicht, Mia auch nicht. Das Tor ist groß, der Ball ist schnell.
Dann sieht Kai Herrn Weber, Ellas Vater. „Ich? Ich spiele nie Fußball!“, sagt Herr Weber. Aber dann geht er doch ins Tor.
Herr Weber ist kein guter Torwart. Nach zehn Minuten steht es null zu zwei. Einmal fällt er in den Schlamm.
Dann spielen die Kinder besser. Jonas schießt ein Tor, dann noch eins und noch eins. Am Ende steht es drei zu zwei!
Herr Weber ist schmutzig, aber glücklich. „Nächsten Sonntag spiele ich wieder“, sagt er. Jonas fragt leise: „Ist Max bald gesund?“

In a German main clause, the conjugated verb is always the second part of the sentence. The first part can be the subject, a time, a place, or an object. If something other than the subject comes first, the subject moves right after the verb.
